Paddleclub Central Scotland goes from strength to strength in 2018

Phew, what a year!! With the nights drawing in, and our last Tuesday paddleclub Central Scotland session coming up on 25th September, it seems appropriate to reflect on what has been an epic 4th year for Paddlefast’s Paddleclub.

Where it all began

From humble beginnings where only myself and Ewan turned up at the Falkirk Kelpies, to regular turnouts of 10-20 paddlers, SUP is gaining traction in Scotland. I am delighted to be introducing so many people to the sport I love.

Paddleclub runs every second Tuesday from Easter to the end of September and moves around various locations in the Central Belt. A mixture of canal and Loch sessions and Paddlefast usually rent out the demo boards so you can help encourage your friends to come too. Most events are suitable for beginners, with only a couple of exceptions. If you’re not sure, just ask!

One of the main highlights this summer was the amazing weather! Even better was when Lucy from Red Paddle joined us at Loch Ard with her demo boards. We all got to play on everything from the Whip, up to the Elite. In addition, we had a go at headstands and pivot turns as the water was the warmest it has ever been in Scotland!

Looking forward to the winter

Don’t despair that the season is winding down! Grab the an opportunity to try something a bit different like a downwinder (more on this to follow) or get back into your winter sports (running/skiing??). Keep your eyes peeled for a couple of novelty SUP sessions coming up.

Plans for 2019

For the first time ever, we are getting together in October for an end-of-season dinner and there may even be a mini prize-giving. We will chat through some of the plans for 2019 and hopefully find a few more paddle spots to share with the club. Until then, we still have the long paddle to the Falkirk Tunnel to look forward to.
