What is your age?
32
What are you studying, or what did you study?
I studied Natural Sciences (Geology) at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Basically, I like rocks!
What do you sail?
ILCA 6
Where do you sail?
I grew up in Lymington, but now mostly from WPNSA on Portland with the British Sailing Team.
Who introduced you to sailing?
Neither of my parents sail, but they joined me up to Salterns Sailing Club in Lymington when I was 8-years-old – it was a skive out of P.E. in school that got very out of hand.
Do you have a role model/inspirational person that you follow? If so, why do you find them inspirational?
I always aspired to be like Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson – they were incredible sailors and also very excellent people.
What would be your best advice or top tips for younger sailors or new sailors?
Enjoy it, and ask lots of questions – nobody will mind – all sailors love to talk about sailing!
Tell us something about you that no one else knows
I play and sing folk music… busking in 2017 was the way I earned the extra money to pay to go to the Worlds that year when I wasn’t in the British Sailing Team!
What’s your superpower?
Well on a good day I’d say sailing an ILCA upwind in 12-18 knots… otherwise I’d say I have an ability to acquire house plants that surpasses all others.
What bit of sailing kit can you not live without? And why?
A nice big Musto jacket for long tows or cold wintery days in Weymouth.
What’s your ultimate dream?
An Olympic medal. But I have plenty of goals and dreams for life after Olympic sailing, too!
